Why you need someone in the EU or UK
EU market surveillance rules (Regulation 2019/1020) require many products sold in the EU to have an economic operator established there, who holds the declaration of conformity, can provide technical documentation to authorities and cooperates if a product is found unsafe. If you are a brand outside the EU without your own EU company, an authorised representative fills that role. Great Britain has similar requirements for UKCA-marked products.
The EU General Product Safety Regulation, in force since December 2024, extends the need for an EU-based responsible party to consumer products more widely. Marketplaces now display these details on listings and can remove products that lack them.
What your representative does
- holds your declaration of conformity and technical documentation
- provides documents to market surveillance authorities on request
- cooperates on corrective action if a product is found unsafe
- appears by name and address on your product, packaging or accompanying documents
Testing and documents, joined up with production
Because we work with your factory, we can plan testing into production: send pre-production samples to an accredited lab, check that test reports match the final product, and make sure labels and the declaration of conformity are correct before goods leave China.
